Board of Directors

  • Patrick J. Curry

    Interim CEO and Chairman

    Mr. Curry currently serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of PJC Investments, LLC. Previously, from 1997 to 2003, Mr. Curry served as Executive Vice President and a director of Central Freight Lines, Inc. From 1994 to 1997, Mr. Curry was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Universal Express Limited, LLC. From 1991 to 1993, Mr. Curry served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Lortex, Inc. Prior to these roles, Mr. Curry was also a licensed stock and bond broker for Legg Mason Wood Walker, Inc. and a financial analyst for Hercules Aerospace, Inc. Mr. Curry has previous experience in investing in entities in the life settlement business. Mr. Curry has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Texas A&M University.


  • Andrew Dakos


    In 2001, Andrew Dakos joined what is now Bulldog Investors, a value oriented group of private investment funds that invest primarily in closed-end funds, small cap operating companies, special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs), and special situations. Bulldog Investors often employs activism to unlock or enhance the intrinsic value of its investments. Opportunity Partners L.P., Bulldog's original fund has returned more than 12.5% per annum net to its investors for almost two decades and has had only one losing year. In 2009, Mr. Dakos and his partners at Bulldog won a proxy contest for control of Insured Municipal Income Fund, a registered closed-end mutual fund seeking tax free income. They then formed Brooklyn Capital Management LLC, to serve as the Fund's new investment advisor. The Fund's name was changed to Special Opportunities Fund (NYSE: SPE) and its objective changed to total return. Mr. Dakos is currently the President and a director Special Opportunities Fund and serves as a director of the Mexico Equity & Income Fund and Brantley Capital Corporation. He also serves as a director of Crossroads Capital, Inc. and as a director of UVitec Printing Ink, Inc., a privately held manufacturing company. Mr. Dakos graduated from the University of Delaware in 1988 with a BS in Business Administration, Finance concentration.

  • Joseph E. Sarachek


    Sarachek currently serves as Chapter 11 Trustee appointed by the US Department of Justice to turnaround a multi-million dollar agricultural business. Prior to founding Triax, Mr. Sarachek was a portfolio manager and consultant with Balfour Investors. Prior to joining Balfour, Mr. Sarachek was a partner at the New York office of the law firm of McDermott, Will & Emery where his primary focus was principal outside counsel to several investment partnerships, which acquired bank debt, trade claims, and distressed assets. Mr. Sarachek is a director of Chazak Value Corp. and Kominox, a Korean experimental cancer research corporation. Mr. Sarachek has previous experience in investing in entities in the life settlement business.


  • James Hua


    Mr. Hua currently serves as Portfolio Manager for Opal Advisors and as Chief Investment Officer for Sheppard Wealth Management. Previously, from 2011 to 2012, Mr. Hua served as Investment Analyst for Freestone Capital. From 2009 to 2011, Mr. Hua served as Controller of Liberty Capital. Mr. Hua has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from the University of Washington.


  • Matthew T. Epstein


    Mr. Epstein currently serves as a Senior Analyst for Evermore Global Advisors, an investment management firm.  Previously, from 2005 to 2014, Mr. Epstein worked at W.R. Huff Asset Management, most recently serving as Senior Analyst.  Mr. Epstein has Bachelor of Science degrees in Finance and International Business from New York University and an MBA from Columbia University.  Mr. Epstein is a CFA Charterholder.


  • Robert Knapp


    Mr. Knapp is the Managing Director of Ironsides Partners LLC, which is a registered investment advisor that specializes in discounted assets and distressed credit investments. Mr. Knapp is also a director of several other publicly traded companies, often as a result of his investment activities with Ironsides.  These include MVC Capital listed on the NYSE, Castle Private Equity AG listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange, the Africa Opportunity Fund listed on the London Stock Exchange, and MPC Container Ships listed on the Oslo Børs’ Merkur Market.


  • Antony Mitchell


    Considered to be one of the early pioneers in the life settlement industry, Antony Mitchell has had a successful career building specialty finance companies that have become leaders in the life and structured settlements industries.  He has served as the chief executive officer of Emergent Capital since its founding in February of 2007, and prior to August 14, 2012, also served as its chairman.

    Mr. Mitchell has over 25 years of experience in the financial industry, which includes serving as chief operating officer and executive director for Peach Holdings, a provider of specialty factoring services. Mr. Mitchell was also a co-founder of Singer Asset Finance Company, one of the first companies to acquire insurance policies, structured settlements and other types of receivables. He serves on a number of boards and is also a director and past chair of the board of directors of Polaris Geothermal Inc., a renewable energy company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
